1. Active Category vs. Inactive Category
Active categories are just that - active and banners in those categories are in rotation.
Inactive categories are basically just storage for banner HTML that is not currently being displayed, like a storage chest.
While banners from an inactive category may be exported to an active category, the categories themselves remain in their respective area, i.e. active categories are always active and inactive categories are always inactive.
Suggested use - For categories, it seems to work best if your inactive categories relate to your sponsors and your active categories are set up by content. For example, create inactive categories for sponsors like Microsoft, Netscape, Columbia House, and Napster. You can do this at the same time you add the html for those banners. On the active side, create your categories by content. For example, create a categories for Software and Music, etc. Then, when you export banners, you can simply copy MS, NS, and Napster to Software, and Napster and Columbia House can be copied into Music.
When you add banners you can do it either on the active side or inactive side. We suggest that you always add your banner HTML on the inactive side and then export it to a category on the active side. That way you only have to add the html once and it will always be stored on the inactive side, unless you delete it.
2. Exporting Banners from Inactive to Active
Just to clear the air here, banners in active categories are available for rotation and banners in the inactive categories are in storage, like a database of available banners.
You're better off if you add your HTML to a category on the inactive side and put it in storage.
When you export a banner from an inactive category to an active one, you don't actually move the HTML, you're copying it.
To export a banner from an inactive category to an active, simply click on both the active category you want to add banner(s) to and the inactive one(s) you want to copy banner(s) from and then click on "Export". (Yes, by using the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard, you can select more than one inactive category!)
Once you've clicked on the "Export" button, you will be taken to with two columns. The left-hand column shows the banners that are currently in rotation in the active category and the right-hand column shows the banners in the selected inactive categories. You'll also notice a check box next to each of the available banners on the inactive side. Simply check the boxes next to the banners you wish to add to the active rotation and click on the "Move" button.
Lastly, when you go to Export banners, if the category you wish to Export to doesn't exist on the active side, you can simply type in the name of the category you wish to create for the Export inside the box labeled "New".
3. Miscellaneous Information
The functions of the rest of the buttons should be pretty obvious, but just in case...
Clicking on the "Show" button will show you a list of all the banner in the selected category. From there you can choose which banner you would like to view.
The "Edit" and "Delete" buttons work in much the same way.
The "Delete Category" button will do just that. It will delete the selected category and everything in it. Be careful with this one!
The view insertion code is pretty straight up too, unless you're using SSI to insert your banners. With SSI you will see an added variable "<num>". You will need to assign each SSI insertion a separate number, from 1-6. The maximum number of SSI insertions to a page is 6.
The "Change password" button I shouldn't have to explain.
